Through song circles and mentoring, I work with people who want to live and make more honestly. Some of these people are artists, some are not.  Some call it soul work. Interested? Feel free to send me an email.

Song Circle

Held on the first Wednesday of each month, Song Circle is a listening-based gathering for songwriters who want to bring their work into the room without performance, fixing, or critique. Song Circle was selected by the Creative Change Mapping Project as a music program making a difference, with the project authors noting:
Song Circle allows for collaboration, friendships and supportive networks to emerge and be strengthened. Younger and less experienced musicians gain mentoring and performing opportunities from more experienced (world class) musicians and intergenerational collaborations have been formed. Through these gatherings, the Song Circle contributes to the building and sustaining of the musical community in and around Moonah/Hobart and surrounding areas.

Each circle is an invitation to slow down and let songs be heard as they are — unfinished, uncertain, alive. We listen. We don’t analyse or advise.

Song Circle is held in my nipaluna/Hobart home and is intentionally small. This allows for safety, intimacy, and enough time for each song to land.

People come for many reasons:
  • to reconnect with their voice
  • to find courage to share new or fragile work
  • to write without pressure
  • to remember why they started making songs in the first place
Over time, Song Circle becomes a rhythm — a place to return to, month by month.

Practical details:
  • First Wednesday of each month
  • Hosted in my nipaluna/Hobart home
  • Limited numbers
  • Open to songwriters at all stages

Contribution: I ask for a sliding-scale contribution of $20–$40. This supports the space, the hosting, and the ongoing work of holding the circle. No one is turned away for lack of funds.

If this feels like something you’d like to be part of, please drop me a line.

Mentoring

Alongside the Song Circle, I work one-on-one with individuals who are looking for deeper, more sustained support. Some of these people identify as artists, some don't.

This work is for those who feel they are at a turning point — creatively, personally, or both — and who want accompaniment rather than instruction.

Our time together is shaped around conversation, listening and reflection. I don’t offer formulas, systems or solutions. Instead, I bring attention, experience, and a steady presence to the questions you’re already living with.

People often come to this work when:
  • their life feels blocked, fragile, or uncertain
  • they are moving through a transition or reorientation
  • they want to live true without burning out or faking it
Mentoring usually happens over a defined period of time, rather than as a one-off conversation. It's all about trust, right?

Practical details:
  • One-on-one sessions
  • Offered in 3- or 6-month containers
  • In person (where possible) or online
  • Limited availability
This work often grows naturally out of time spent in the Song Circle, but that isn’t a requirement.

The money bit:
  • Less than a mechanic but more than most musicians

If you feel drawn to this way of working, please drop me a line.
